10 and half hours, 437 balls, 38 gours, 11 sixes all this and more made up the herculean inngins of 380 which today meant that Mathew Hayden has surpassed Brian Lara as the record holder for the highest score in a test innings
Hayden might lack the class of a Lara or the brilliance of a Sachin, but if statistics were to make the man, Hayden it is ! and while there would be many who would argue to the contrary ad infinitum, Hayden seems to be, going by the record book over the past few years ... perhaps the best batsman around
With 13 tons in 31 tests, he shows every sign of threatening the records that the Bradmans, the Gavaskars, the Borders and the Sachins have set
I must confess that for once I felt bad, real bad at an Aussie getting dismissed ! I did pray that this man with all his grit and tenacity overcomes the hitherto unsurmounted 400 run barrier in a test innings ! Unfortunately, destiny had it otherwise
Nevertheless, hats off to a legend of an innings !

A scorecard to preserve
P.S. : While the writers and the commentators wax eloquent about the Sachins and the Laras of the world, fact remains that it is the workman like qualities of the Dravids and the Haydens that actually make winning teams !
